Lets help the soldiers of Fort Bragg
Contribute to our new legacy
The 100th Infantry Division - Private Roland Giduz Endowed Fund at Fayetteville Technical Community College was established to honor both the 100th Infantry Division and Private Roland Giduz. The endowment was established to assist soldiers and their families stationed at Fort Bragg and to honor Private Roland Giduz for his exemplary service of more than sixty years to the 100th Infantry Division Association. Through a strong advocacy for preserving the memory of the Divisions distinguished combat record, the endowment will maintain a status of perpetual memorial.
Soldiers of the 100th Infantry Division represent elite troops, members of Airborne and Special Operations units who are often deployed into combat areas. The spouses of these soldiers are keenly aware of the hazardous nature of military duty, and in an effort to better support their families, these spouses will often seek opportunities to improve their personal educational levels by taking courses that will help them become better qualified in the job market. When individuals, such as these soldiers and their spouses and family members, improve upon their educational levels, our society overall benefits in many ways.
The U.S. Army has changed over the years. Todays soldiers are volunteers, with
nearly a third being between the ages of 2l and 24. Among this group of
soldiers, about half are married, and nearly all new enlistees share a common
desire to improve their education levels beyond the high school diploma.
The purpose of the 100th Infantry Division - Private Roland
Giduz Endowed Fund is to provide Fort Bragg soldiers and their families with
financial assistance for academic expenses at Fayetteville Technical Community
College. Colonel (Ret.) Frank G. Everett, Jr. (397-D) and Mrs. Mary Fant
Everett established the Fund in April 2005. The 100th Infantry Division
Association and other Centurymen have made significant contributions to the
Fund. At the end of November 2006, the Fund reached over $15,000 in
contributions, the amount needed for full endowment. Through use of an endowed fund, the principal amount is
invested for long-term appreciation, and only the earned income from the
investment is awarded through gifts to recipients. The availability of the gift
is perpetual and is issued based on criteria set forth by donors. The
investment is managed by the FTCC Foundation, Inc., comprised of a 23-member
board of distinguished Fayetteville community leaders. The mission of the FTCC
Foundation is to solicit donations and oversee the management of scholarships
and endowed fund programs. The FTCC Foundation manages all investments
conservatively and charges no fees. The 100th Infantry Division - Private Roland Giduz Endowed
Fund represents a permanent memorial at FTCC to honor the memory of soldiers
who served in the 100th Infantry Division during World War II. It also serves
as a token of appreciation to Fort Bragg for honoring the Division by naming a
major boulevard the 100th Infantry Division Street and for the
placement of two granite monuments located in a comer of the Fort Bragg parade
ground dedicated in honor of the 100th Infantry Division Centurymen. Members
of the 100th Infantry Division Association also contribute to a scholarship
endowment at Virginia Military Institute (VMI) as well as other scholarships
for soldiers who are stationed at Fort Jackson, South Carolina.
Located adjacent to Fort Bragg, North Carolina, Fayetteville
Technical Community College has a faculty and staff of 1,400, an annual
operating budget of over $100 million, and an annual student enrollment of
approximately 34,000 including over 2,300 active-duty soldiers and
approximately 1,500 soldier dependents. Now in its fifth decade, FTCC provides
over 150 low-cost general, vocational, technical, and adult education programs.
Courses are also available for high school graduates who need additional
academic preparation for college. Fayetteville Technical Community College offers military
personnel and their dependents in North Carolina an in-state tuition rate of
$700 (maximum) for 16-plus credit hours per semester. In addition to providing
support for tuition costs, the 100th Infantry Division - Private Roland Giduz
Endowed Fund provides financial assistance for book expenses as well as other
academic expenses.
