The Rhine Bridge connecting Mannheim and Ludwigshafen . . . before and after.

A pre-war German postcard of the "New Rhine Bridge" connecting Mannheim and Ludwigshafen, showing both the trolley/roadway and railroad trestles.

31 March 1945. Both spans lie broken and rusting in the Rhine, destroyed by the Germans to deny American passage.

Photo taken by Bob McCann, Headquarters Company/3d Battalion, 399th Infantry, from a speeding jeep as the 100th crosses the Rhine and drives toward its next objective -- Heilbronn on the Neckar.
