October 1944: Chaplain Bonner Teeter, 397th Infantry Regiment, conducts an outdoor Protestant worship service at the Delta Base Section Staging Area near Septèmes-sur-Vallons, France (just north of Marseilles). Note that the men are still wearing leggings, which were soon to be replaced by "shoe pacs." While warmer and waterproof, shoe pacs had other disadvantages in comparison with leggings or the two-buckle combat boots, which were issued much later in the 100th's overseas service.
